WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF INTENTION?

The following types of intentions can be ordered in our church:

  • individual – the priest says one Holy Mass in a given intention; you can choose from the available specific date (day and time) for the celebration of the Holy Mass;
    collective – one priest says one Holy Mass for several intentions; we celebrate such a Mass for the intentions of the dead;
  • Gregorian – intention for one dead person; such an intention is made daily for 30 consecutive days;
  • to the Heavenly Court – intention for one living person; such an intention is made daily for 30 consecutive days;
  • hourless – when we want a specific date, and all the hours of the Mass are already taken, you can order an intention said by one of the priests in another church or monastery. However, it is not possible to participate in it or to arrange the check-in time;
  • dateless – without specifying a specific date, it is made at the earliest possible date as an hourless intention.

GREGORIAN MASSES

In 604, Pope Gregory the Great described the case of the monk Justus, in relation to whom after his death he gave the following command: “Make sure that, starting today for thirty days, an offering is made for him. Let there be no day when the saving host is not offered for the forgiveness of his sins. ” Thirty days later, Justus appeared to his brother in a dream with the news that he had reached heaven.

Practice of Holy Mass The Gregorian began to spread from the eighth century and was approved by the Holy See. On March 15, 1884, the Congregation for Indulgences ruled that the belief in the special effectiveness of the Holy Mass. The Gregorian in relation to the souls in Purgatory is rational and in accord with faith.

According to the document Tricenario Gregoriano of February 24, 1967, the Holy Mass. Gregorian can be said for one deceased in 30 consecutive days (by one or more priests – in extreme cases thirty different). There are, however, exceptions to this rule. The priest may interrupt the celebration of Holy Mass. Gregorian on days:

  • Paschal Triduum,
  • when there is (through no fault of the priest) an unforeseen obstacle (e.g. illness),
  • certain pastoral activities (e.g. funeral mass, mass for the newlyweds).
    It should be remembered, however, that the priest is obliged to “supplement” the number of Gregorian Masses to thirty. If it happens that the priest, through his own fault, neglects to celebrate a mass, he is obliged to “re-organize” thirty masses for the intention of the deceased.

MASSES TO THE HEAVEN'S MANOR

Holy Masses to the Heavenly Court are a special expression of love and care – as in the Masses. Gregorian, but towards living people who are in special need.

For 30 days the priest will celebrate Holy Mass for someone, for 30 days loved ones will remember a special prayer, according to Christ’s principle “Where two or three of you on earth will ask for something, there I am among them” (Mt 18, 19). The special dimension of this Mass derives from its unifying communal character around a cause or person. It can be said that the intention will be presented to God “persistently”, as in the Gospel of a friend who opens the door for this reason alone (Lk 11: 5-8).

The Heavenly Court is, of course, Heaven, where the Queen of the World, Angels and Saints reside with God. Holy Mass is objectively always of the same value, no matter who celebrates it, for what intention, and whether other faithful are present. However, as in any prayer, one can always ask for more or less, depending on our holiness and zeal in prayer.

“Ordering” Holy Masses always has the same goal: to ask God for some grace for yourself or for people close to us. It does not make the Mass different in itself, but it mobilizes us and the whole family to be present, to pray in a special way, it is our sacrifice and out of money and time, it is an evidence of love. Holy Masses to the Heavenly Court, it is simply an assault to Heaven.
